It seems somewhat interesting:

Except for this:

Advancement
PvP also has its own system of leveling and advancement, with dedicated PvP levels, feats, and so forth, for those who do well or spend a lot of time PvPing. This system will complement the regular advancement system, allowing you to further tune your character to your own tastes.

Grind is FTL.

MMOs reward time spent. The only thing that matters is if you enjoy the content you spend the time on.
For me :
Spending time obtaining ten titles in Guild Wars is mind numbing and overall a negative experience.
Spending time raiding is enjoyable.
Spending time on sieges is enjoyable.
Spending time on open pvp is enjoyable.
Spending time on PvP mini-games is a neutral experience. I'll bite it if it gives me an advantage.

So, if someone doesnt like the idea of time spent=more rewards, AoC(and a lot of other MMOs) isn't for him.

If someone likes spending time on any of the stuff I mentioned, its worth a try.

I don't see me coming back. If AoC really isn't for me, I'll pick up a PS3 and play that until WAR/Aion arrives.

I don't mind not having a polished game at launch. I've nothing better to do with my free time. I do nothing in GW, and posting here is getting pointless.
let's just see

This game, to me, sounds dull and boring, i will read reviews of it, if people like it, then it's ok, p2p is really pissing many people of, but i don't think it will get more subscribers than WoW/GW/City of Villains.

he's a review from a persons perspective (ain't me)

"I guess the title says it all. I've participated in Beta Testing for quite a few games. By far, this has been the worst Beta experience ever.

The Devs are the most dishonest I've ever seen. I understand they're trying to sell a product, but they go too far. With less than a month from release, there is SO much content STILL not even in yet. Despite downloading enormous patches every other day, the game is still plagued with bugs, glitches, crashes and an assortment of other things gone wrong.

There is an absolute lack of content. With so little time left, this should be the polishing and tweaking process...but it isnt. Weapons and gear are boring. At level 30, you'll still be wearing level 10 gear. Item drops are not exsistant. Skills are few and far between. When you finally do obtain a new skill for your character, it's most likely going to be useless. While the feat tree is supposed to be similar to the current talant tree of WoW...the devs at FunCom forget to make them usefull.

There are only three "Races" to pick from. To make it worse, there is no difference between them. Everyone looks the same...exactly the same. There is no real customization or advancement/development for your character. They created a skill list, where you receive skill points for leveling up and you can distribute them as you wish. Of course, the skills themselves are useless. "Climbing" for instance. You would think it has a purpose...it doesnt. Beta Testers have learned to simply put 1 point into it to allow them to climb, as there is no purpose in placing anymore. Much to our suprise, there is no option to put points into things like Strength, or Agility, or other combat skills with purpose. Wait a second! They dont even have those skills in-game at all! Gaining a level does nothing other than boost your health a little bit. By level ten, you've most likely obtained Useless Skill Rank 4...and you still havent found a use for Useless Skill ranks 1,2 and 3.

There is no reason to group for nearly the entire game. It's a good thing too, because the chat/group interface is STILL not working.

PvP is a joke, at best. FunCom has devoted no time to class balancing...at all. This is the point of the development that should be focused on things like this. However, theyre too busy trying to finish all the content they promise and have yet to deliver on.

Crafting is non-existant.

The combat system is the worst I have ever seen. I imagine on paper, it looked good. But, in reality, it is absolutely terrible. What they boasted to be a revolutionary combat system has turned out to be a mini-game of whack-a-mole.

The quests are static and boring. The only difference is they have ALOT of script from the NPC's. Meaning, when your trying to turn in or accept a quest...you have to sit through a very long story which is extremely boring and uneventful.

The entire world has been constructed using instancing. There is no exploration and no "open-world" feeling. If you want to go somewhere else, be prepared to sit through an annoying loading screen. And, get used to it...because you will do it ALOT. Not to mention the fact that you might not even survive the loading screen. Frequent freezes and crashes STILL occur.

The large scale siege battles that are supposed to make up the end-game content...still not even in yet. And, the devs are refusing to give an explanation as to why that is.

Spellweaving...nope...not in.

Bar fights....nope.

You would think the idea was to take all the great ideas of past MMO's and wrap them all up in one package. Well, FC decided, "...Hey, lets take all the proven aspects of great MMO's, and get rid of them!"

Instanced world instead of a living, explorable game. Combat is terrible. PvP is a joke. End-game PvP doesnt exist yet. Crafting was an after-thought. Absolutely no itemization in the game, with boring gear. No racial differences. Everyone begins in the same starter area...EVERY time you create a character, leaving you with no re-play value. No Factions, removing any potential for Faction Vs. Faction PvP. PvP mini-games (CTF), are small and boring. Character advancement is boring and uneventful. Class skills are useless. Feat Tree is terrible.

There is simply no reason to play this game. The beta forums are flooded with post after post about the piss-poor state of the game and lack of any motivating factors to play. Of all the Beta's I've been in (SWG, LoTRO, Vanguard, POTBS, Planetside, DDO...) this is the worst. What makes it even more sad, is logging into the beta forums and noticing just how many people agree about it.

sounds nice from gamespot on forum"

That's part of the problem with MMO's, though. If there ain't enough people who're into that stuff, things start to get into trouble.

Not trying to predict AoC's demise. It looks nice and violent, just how I like my games. Hope the combat is up to snuff, though, but I haven't heard much "zomg" about it.

I'm personally looking forward to Warhammer: Set in ye olde WH universe (Orks!) and it won't kill my pc.

Rewards come in different styles. Rewards that alter gameplay are those I consider grind. Levelling is grinding. I would prefer an MMO with instant level 20 PvE characters, or say optional level 20 characters. Titles are fine, as long as they have no gameplay effect. I would personally love to see titles based on hard accomplishments. Hard accomplishments not being something like spending 100 hours drunk. Hard accomplishments could be something like complete THK without any armor on - all eight party members.

Lets not forget, closed beta rarely represents the finished product.

It's clearly going to be a few months before the game is polished, but I was expecting that anyway. A couple months will help me get a good grasp of the game.

People complaining about the P2P aspect are lame. Every decent MMO is P2P. Most people are just too cheap to pay (see GW)

I pre-ordered my CE. hopefully should be receiving my pre-order key for the 3 day headstart soon. Can start registering accounts from tomorrow I believe.

I think the key word in that sentence is advertised.

Malice, yes and no. The closer you get to release, the closer to the real deal a game becomes. I would think that around now, the core gameplay is set in stone for AoC.

Core gameplay yes. Content and fixing bugs no. Thats what the quoted post was referring to. Often such games dont have time to finish all planned content by release date, so they just add it later. And they'll obviously fix bugs as they go along.

But anyway, I got my early access key a couple of days back. Will register it tomorrow.

Hmmmm.... I have been so amazed by the brilliance of the AoC forums, and news of the 'superior - to - every - other - MMO - and - RPG' combat system that I havnt logged into GW for two weeks.

And for the last two months or longer, all I ever did when I logged into GW was talk to my alliance.

GW is dead, it was killed by a terrible design team that constantly ruined their own game with rubbish updates and additions to the game. I would rather play a game with fees that listens to its community and adds extra decent content regularly, then play a game with no fees that keeps on getting destroyed by its own developers because they can do whatever they like since they already have your money!

GW was great at the start, but for a lot of people that have been playing it since the start it is a dead game now. None of my friends I had in between when I had started playing the game up to my recent guild play anymore. I just have one huge gray N list.

MMO's with fees have far better content then GW. AoC does everything right from my view. I didnt like the graphics in WoW, I didnt like the poor combat in Lotro.

AoC has amazing graphings, truly amazing combat, and the RPG side of the game is deffinately going to be the best that an RPG can get, unlike GW.

And people that complain about grind yet play GW are just the most ignorant players you will find. Titles, EL OH EL!

Yes I have already finished the PVE part of every GW game and they were far too easy and short compared to real RPG's. All I had left to do other then repeat the game for a fourth time on my mesmer was grind titles.

Epic boring.

You really cant have been following any information on AoC, or know much about it if you havnt heard any ZOMG about the combat system yet. Its like a combination of Oblivion with Mortal Combat, and requires skill to fight rather then just point and click like in every other MMO so far.

Pre-ordered the CE for the hubster and a regular one for me today.

No doubt I'll have the same IGN there as I do everywhere else cos I'm a boring cow. Unless someone else has already grabbed it.

Pffft. I aint going nowhere.

Played WoW and GW for the last year, cancelled the former but I'll always hang around GW and work on my HoM stuff till GW2 comes out.

QFT.

Funny that a lot of people dont understand that it *IS* possible to play more games then just Guild Wars. I have actually gotten so bored of vanquishing and working on my HoM though that I'm currently not playing GW at all.

I just installed Final Fantasy 8 a few days ago and am having a blast playing it for the first time in over 5 years. After I'm done with that, maybe I'll replay morrowind, and then AoC will be here

BTW I got discounts on my Pre orders XD:

Woo hoo!

I also want Sacred 2 but will keep my eye out for more coupons first. If I dont get any then i'll Pre order it from Game for double reward points.

Yeh, I ordered mine through Play and the hubby's through GAME. GAME has the mammoth and Play has the rhino. CE was pretty pricey though...

I didn't really fancy the mammoth, too biiiiig. So he's going to get the CE for a change, as I've hogged all the GW ones and we don't need two art books for each campaign..

I originally ordered the CE from game too, but I found it too expensive in the end so went for the standard edition. In case you didnt know, if you use Quidco as a promotional code at game, you get £3 off on orders over £30.

I felt like uploading some official screenshots to post here for people that havnt seen then yet (I shrunk them down):

Heres a nice upgrade that will play AoC decently and wont break the bank:

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...jsp?HIS-HD29GT

And if you cant afford that, then you cant really be affording computer games either

And IMO Warhammer looks like pants compared to AoC. Its just another WoW clone - zomg humans, orcs and elves!!!!

Give me something new please. Oh wait, AoC is new.
